Intensity and Hot Weather Precaution

Intensity and Hot Weather Precaution when incorporating an exercise plan for kids:

Keep in mind the physiological factors influencing children exercising during hot weather.  Monitor temperature and humidity and adjust activities.

Children have:

a.  Higher surface area/mass ratio.
b.  Greater amount of heat transfer between the body and the environment.
c.  Greater metabolic heat production than adults performing the same activity.
d.  Less sweating capacity than adults.
e.  Decreased ability to rid the body of heat due to lower cardiac output.
